Supreme OCEAN BEEF Angus: INtense Marbling, Immense flavor

Ocean Beef by Anzco Foods is the most distinctive grain-fed beef available. This is marbled meat of the highest quality, a richer, beefier Angus that gets its exceptional flavor from the grass and its melt-in-your-mouth tenderness from the grain.

A Superior Eating Experience Every Time

Anzco Foods, a Japanese-owned company, created Ocean Beef to meet the rigorous standards of the Japanese market. Their overarching goal is to produce the best, and they have, which is why Ocean Beef ribeye, sirloin, and filet won gold at the 2023 World Steak Challenge.

Quality OCEAN BEEF FROM NEW ZEALAND created naturally

Along with supreme Angus genetics and expert processing, what’s beneficial to the animal will benefit the eating quality of the meat. Well-treated, well-fed animals are what it takes to produce the most distinctive, grain-fed beef you can buy.

Ocean Beef is raised with an attention to detail that rivals Japanese wagyu. Ocean Beef steers graze on New Zealand’s abundant, nutrient-rich grasslands. After 18 months, a hand-picked few are transferred to Wakanui Farm’s Five Star Feedlot on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Along with fresh water from the snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps, they consume a diverse and flavorful diet sourced from surrounding farms: wheat & barley, whole corn silage, rye and grass, and supplements.

What sets Marx Foodservice wholesale beef apart from other suppliers?

In short, exceptional taste, expert butchery, and consistency. We focus on developing and refining top quality products with foodservice operators in mind, including seeking out unique specialty meats that aren't commonly found elsewhere. We talk to the farmers and visit the processing facilities, establishing relationships at every level. Over more than two decades as meat distributors, we have worked very closely with producers to develop specs that are dialed in to foodservice needs. Many of our cuts are chef ready or high yielding. Our product specs continually improve and evolve to help our customers achieve maximum profitability.

Is feedlot finishing ever a good thing?

Feedlots are an efficient way of fattening cattle before harvest, but the crowded conditions of many feedlots increase stress on the animals, which can toughen meat. Overcrowding leads to a lack of fresh air and water, and it can create a breeding ground for pathogens. Antibiotics help but also may contribute to antibiotic resistance. It is possible to structure a more humane and effective feedlot system, however. Ocean Beef is a good example. At their 5-Star feedlot in Wakanui, New Zealand, Angus cattle that have been selected for grain-finishing reside in a spacious corral where ocean breezes freshen the air reducing dust, odors and insects. Room to move, a diverse, nutritious diet, and gentle handling methods are all part of the intentional care and feeding that creates Ocean Beef’s exceptional eating quality.

Where does the best beef in the world come from?

Several countries in the world are known for producing high-quality beef. The U.S. is the world’s largest beef producer famous for well-marbled, juicy, tender beef. U.S. beef production is highly regulated with a lot of product diversity (grain-fed, grass-fed, wagyu), but grain-fattening and feedlot confinement contributes to an over-reliance on hormones and antibiotics. Brazil and Argentina are both known for high quality grass-fed beef, though their industry and animal welfare are less strictly regulated. Japan produces the highly sought after wagyu beef, Kobe being the most well-known. Wagyu’s lavish marbling is the result of a strict regimen of care and grain-feeding. High quality grass-fed beef requires a mild climate and abundant green pastures where cattle can graze almost or nearly year-round. Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland all fit the bill perfectly, and all three countries maintain high animal welfare standards and limit or prohibit hormones, antibiotics and GMOs. At Marx Foodservice you’ll find 100% grass-fed beef, barley-fed wagyu beef, and Galician-style vintage beef from Australia; grass-fed Angus and grain-fed Angus from New Zealand; and grass-and-grain-fed Irish beef.
